CAD/CAM is used at MWDC by Dr Jonathan Cole. CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technologies use 3D imaging to create a digital impression, allowing the dentist to design a unique restoration on the computer system. The design is sent wirelessly to a milling unit which mills the restoration from a ceramic block with diamond burs, ready to be placed in the same appointment.
CEREC is the unique CAD/CAM system for building the patient individual all-ceramic restorations in one appointment. Used here at Mount Wellington Dental Centre, it produces high accuracy and patient specific restorations, enabling faster and more efficient dentistry so the patient only has to visit once.
IPS e.max is a lithium disilicate glass ceramic material used in the CAD/CAM milling process. It combines excellent aesthetic properties by mimicking the natural shades and translucency of natural teeth, with exceptional strength for a long lasting restoration.
